2 As
his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he
reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
3
explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from
the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.” Acts 17
The gospel is so simple a child
could understand yet so profound the wisest theologians will never exhaust
its riches.
This simple truth is the heart of
the gospel but it was not easy for the Jews of Paul's day to comprehend.
They thought their deliverer, the
Messiah would be more of a conquering King that a Suffering servant in spite of the fact that their own
prophets predicted this. Thus they remained in a form of denial.
Paul explained that the
Messiah had to suffer, be killed, and then be raised from the dead. This is the central message of the
gospel, which is the good news. Christ lived, died, and lives again.
Because of this truth we too may live,
die, and live again.
This is great news, in fact, it is
the best news of all time. It is the hope of a people who face the threat of
death every single day we live. Beloved, that is all of us. No matter how young, how old, how well, or how sick. The wages of sin is death.
The ultimate result of our
rebellion against God is eternal death in separation from God.
Without God’s intervention there
would be no hope, no way to restore the relationship, to bridge the gap between
fallen man and holy God.
Sin and death was the
insurmountable problem of all time for all people.
God overcame this problem in the
only way possible, through the life, death, and resurrection of His only
begotten Son, Jesus.
All who place their faith in Jesus
Christ become partakers in His life and his righteousness.
So what?
Know the gospel. It is the single greatest piece of knowledge ever known.
Understand the
gospel. Apply the truth of Christ to your life every day. Salvation is not something that simply happened to us way back when. It is here, now, living and active, bringing life daily.
Live the gospel. Live right now in the perspective of eternity. You will live forever.
Share the gospel. Don't be selfish with Christ. Share Him with everyone you know. Freely give of the gift that has been freely given to you.
